The Octavius Catto Youth Baseball League's 6-9U program is specifically designed to introduce first-time players to the game while developing core skills for long-term success. To prioritize safety and development, players will use soft baseballs and plastic bats rather than traditional hard balls, metal bats, and gloves. Coaches will focus on teaching game knowledge, fundamental skills — including catching, throwing, hitting, and baserunning — and teamwork.
On game days, the 6-9U players will participate in a fast-paced format where at-bats are limited to a set number of swings, innings are timed rather than ended by outs, and scores are not kept. This approach maximizes repetitions and learning opportunities in a safe environment, preparing interested players for more advanced summer and fall seasons with our local partners.
For our 10-12U teams, Catto League programming looks like a traditional baseball experience. 10-12U players will use hard baseballs, gloves, USABat Standard metal bats, batting helmets, catcher's gear, and plastic cleats to prepare for competitive or recreational play in the summer and fall.
